Move over apple crumble - there’s a new pie in town, and it’s changing the way councils think! Rhondda Cynon Taf’s Health Determinants Research Collaboration (RCT HDRC) has been serving up slices of their now-famous Evidence Pie, a simple but powerful tool that helps everyone - from Council Staff to Elected Members - understand and use evidence better when making decisions.
But things got even more exciting when Zoe Lancelott from RCT HDRC met one of the original creators of the concept, Ben Lewing, at the Welsh Government’s national conference on “Prevention First.” The team have affectionately dubbed Ben the “Grandpiefather” as new versions of the RCT Evidence Pie have been born and are now being used across the UK.
Together, Zoe and Ben rolled up their sleeves for a blog titled “Getting Your Hands Dirty: Unearthing Evidence” - a rallying cry for public service pros to embrace the messy, meaningful side of real-world evidence. Forget cold stats and distant metrics; this blog champions curiosity, collaboration, and the courage to dig deep into lived experience and local insight. It’s a must-read for anyone who wants to make evidence work in practice - not just theory.
