Introduction to Active Travel

Active Travel means getting around by walking, cycling or wheeling for everyday journeys. This includes things like going to work or school, visiting the shops, or attending appointments at your GP or pharmacy.

The Council is responsible for planning and improving active travel routes across RCT to help make these journeys easier and safer.

We want to:

  • Collect information to help us understand where Active Travel routes are most needed in RCT.

  • Measure the impact of Active Travel schemes on the health and wellbeing of people living in Rhondda Cynon Taf.

  • Raise awareness of Active Travel and understand how much the public already knows about local routes, facilities, and the benefits of travelling actively.

What we will do

We will use a wide range of evidence understand and raise awareness of Active travel routes in RCT. This will include organisational data, population information, impact data, academic research, professional knowledge, and lived experience from local people.

Bringing these sources together will help us build a full picture of current needs and opportunities.

How you can get involved

Your views are important to us. By taking part in our surveys and sharing your experiences, you’ll be directly contributing to the lived experience evidence we use to understand how people travel across RCT.

Your feedback helps us see what works well, what doesn’t, and what barriers people face when walking, wheeling or cycling.

📝 Take our survey

Tell us about your experiences of walking, wheeling or cycling in RCT.

🗺️ Use our Active Travel Map

Show us the routes you use, where you feel improvements are needed, and where you think a new Active Travel route would make a real difference to you.

Important disclaimer

This is not part of the Council’s formal consultation process, and the information you provide will not be used to make direct decisions about active travel schemes. Your responses will be used only to support this project, helping us build a better understanding of lived experiences and local travel needs which could strengthen future funding applications.
