One of the highlights of the RCT HDRC Annual Conference 2026 was the launch of our Evidence Pie Animation to an enthusiastic audience.

The Evidence Pie is a simple but powerful framework that shows how diverse types of evidence - data, research, professional insight and lived experience - come together to support better, more inclusive, and comprehensive decision‑making.

Co-produced with community members, voluntary sector partners, academics and council staff the animation was a big team effort. Led by Shannon Lee, Public & Community Engagement Officer, alongside our new Community Voice Team, and in collaboration with film maker Hugh Griffiths from Lily Pad Films, a charming and accessible animation was created explaining the Evidence Pie. Meanwhile other members of team shared their talents - providing voiceovers in both the Welsh and English language.

The response at the conference to both the animation and this innovative approach to working with research - placing community participation at the heart of it, was overwhelmingly positive. We are excited to see how organisations use the Evidence Pie to strengthen prevention, policy, and practice.

“So interesting to see how all the elements sit together under one umbrella and how it improved member involvement, community decision-making and research culture.”

“Hearing from the lived experience advisers and the council about how the evidence pie process had helped them to decide on eighteen recommendations. And the Evidence Pie animation!”

“I love the evidence pie animation; I will be sharing that.”

We hope the animation will become a key part of introducing our project, helping to explain the purpose of our work and the vital role the Evidence Pie plays in evidence‑informed decision‑making. We hope it will be shared far and wide.
